Neuschwanstein Castle - A Magical Place

Image
A Magical Journey to Neuschwanstein Castle Neuschwanstein Castle is one of those rare places that feels almost unreal when you first see it. With its soaring towers, dramatic Alpine backdrop, and commanding position above the valleys of Bavaria, it looks as if it has been lifted straight from the pages of a fairy tale. Perched high on a hill near Füssen and Schwangau, not far from the Austrian border, the castle overlooks a stunning landscape of lakes, forests, and small Bavarian villages. I have been fortunate enough to visit Neuschwanstein a couple of times from Munich, and each journey felt just as special as the first. The drive itself—around 1 hour 40 minutes—is an experience in its own right, winding through the peaceful Bavarian countryside with rolling hills, open fields, and postcard-perfect scenery at every turn.   Tegernsee - A Blue Pearl Tegernsee is a picturesque lake town nestled in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, south of Munich. The town can be accessed by car from Munich in about an hour and by train in 1.5 hours, with hourly services running between Munich and Tegernsee. This is my experience during my visit in January 2026 to this amazing place from Munich. I took the RB57 train from Munich's main station, Hauptbahnhof. Although it was cold, there was no snow in Munich, but upon entering the Alps, the scenery transformed, with plenty of snow and increasingly breathtaking views. I was lucky to get a window seat and I couldn't get my eyes of the vistas which were emerging after every turn the train was taking as it snaked towards the alps. Tegernsee lake revealed itself all of a sudden as the train came down from a crest and took a turn prompting a collective gasp of wonder at the spectacular sight. It was magical, the pearl blue water glistening in the morning  sun. RB5...
